Pottery I students have completed their first large project.  They used papier mache to create a narrative sculpture about what they did over the summer.

This Table Could Be Yours!

Pottery III students upcycled this 80's style table from the thrift store into a conversation piece.

This rainbow-bright table is open for bids at Angel Flight. 

The table top is a glass mosaic of clouds on a blue background.

Wearable Art Progress

Pottery II students have spent the last week examining wearable art.  We have explored fashion, uniforms, different eras and styles of clothing across cultures, and protective clothing.

Glue seams on the inside are the best technique.

and adds variety to the final product.

Play Set Progress

Students have accomplished a lot in just over one week.  Two eight foot seated Pharoah figures are made.  One is finished, and here you can see the second figure getting a base coat.

The large Sphinx is getting a base coat of beige paint today also.  When we are finished at the end of this week we will have a small celebration before moving on to our next project. 

Interesting random fact about Ancient Egypt: 

The workers who built the pyramids were paid in onions and beer.

First Projects

Pottery I Students began the semester by making a paper sculpture on the second day of school.  They drew a word (a noun) from a basket and were given about 15 minutes to sculpt the word from newspaper and masking tape only.  Pottery II students filled the word basket with difficult words to sculpt-like campfire.

Pottery II and III students are spending the first week and a half of school creating scenery for the SCHS musical Aida.  The musical has an Ancient Egyptian theme and students are creating a Sphinx and other figures.

American Cancer Society Teapot Workshop

The graduates of Skutt Catholic are fantastic.  Former pottery student SHF contacted me with an idea to help the American Cancer Society.  Survivors of childhood cancer came to SCHS this morning to paint a teapot to be auctioned the Alice in Wonderland themed benefit party later this year.  My students JT and KC assisted.  It was awesome the meet the children and their families.
